In House Program Overview
Boys Grade 1-2 In House Program
Description:
The House
League is a progressive, introductory program to the fundamental skills
and
concepts of lacrosse and includes a weekly game schedule. Team rosters will be 10-12
players comprised
of equally weighted teams. We
play on a
much smaller field (approximately 60 x 35yrds) as opposed to the
current fields
of 110 x 60yrds. This
size field is more
appropriate for the size of the player’s lungs and the size of the
legs. We
want to promote catching and throwing and movement; not wind sprints
without
the ball! On a smaller field, players are closer together, which
promotes
shorter passes, which promotes easier catches, which facilitates more
quality
play and enjoyment. There
is also more
scoring by more players which makes the game enjoyable and more
interesting to
learn. With small rosters kids will get many opportunities to be on the
field
and thereby get the quality game touches that help develop their
skills, but
more importantly their self-esteem.

Burlington Varsity, Billerica JV and U11 teams. All of the above follow
a specific coaching plan and philosophy committed to improve the
individual and the program

Billerica Youth Lacrosse has partnered with volunteers from
the
Billerica Memorial High School's Lacrosse Program. Volunteers
from BMHS partner with the coaching staff to act as player role models

Rules: Click here
to download game day rules
Experience: No
previous experience with lacrosse is required.
Practices: Practices
typically last 1.5 hours and are scheduled on same night once a week. All players, on all teams,
practice
together. Practices
are run “station”
style with all time spent on core skills required to be successful
players and
future student athletes at higher levels.
Additionally this format allows for equal instruction for
all
players. Drills and
exercises focus on
basics such as throwing, catching, ground balls, shooting, defense and
finding
open space.
Game Play: Each
game will consist of two 20-25 minute running halves.
The field is shortened to approximately 65
yards. Games are
played in a 7 on 7
format, 1 goalie, 2 attack, 2 midfielders and 2 defensemen. Players rotate in order as
pairs on 4 minute
interval shifts. Players
rotate from
sideline to defense, from defense to midfield and from midfield to
attack. Therefore
all players play all
positions. Additionally,
game play is
strictly no checking allowing for safe play for all participants. Games are played on
Sundays and are played
against other teams from Billerica.
